RootWise Environmental is a multifaceted nature-based organization that:

• Provides technical assistance and training guidance on nature-based solutions for stormwater management and urban, agricultural, and forest soil health to create resilient landscapes
• Conducts classes, workshops, and mini retreats that connect people to nature through the integration of nature with contemplation, mindfulness meditation, yoga, forest bathing, art, and other creative media

Co-owners Pat Sauer and Dr. Tom Sauer have 30 years of wisdom gained from work experience in urban and agricultural and forest  soil health and stormwater management.  Pat created and led the non-profit Iowa Stormwater Education Partnership for 20 years and assisted the City of Ames, Iowa as a consultant in developing their stormwater program.  Tom was a research soil scientist with the USDA for 30 years and specialized in soil conservation, water use, and agroforestry.

Pat has completed training on mindfulness-meditation and Forest Bathing and has connections with artists and yoga instructors that will add their wisdom to the retreat part of this organization.  Tom has had a long interest in environmental ethics and the history of science, leading professional committees on these topics nationally and internationally. He is now combining these interests with spirituality to become a contemplative environmentalist.
